The Central Design and Technology Institute (CPTI JSC) has developed design documentation for organizing the production of powders for additive technologies from titanium alloys at the Chepetsk Mechanical Plant (CMP JSC). The project has received a positive expert opinion. CPTI JSC and CMP JSC are part of Rosatom's Fuel Company TVEL.
The customer is RusAT LLC (the industry integrator Rusatom - Additive Technologies part of TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom). The project involves the reconstruction of the existing production areas of the plant in order to create a new area for the production of titanium powders with a suitable fraction from 20 to 63 microns. The material for the manufacture of powders is titanium wire and bars of the Chepetsky Mechanical Plant's own production, which will ensure full quality control of the product.
The main and auxiliary technological equipment, which will ensure the safe and efficient conduct of the technological process, will be located in the production premises of the existing building of Chepetsky Mechanical Plant. The project will provide auxiliary and sanitary-utility rooms for employees, rest rooms. The design area is more than 1000 square meters. Construction of the site is scheduled to start at the end of 2023.
Titanium alloy powders for use in additive technologies occupy one of the key positions in the metal powder market in Russia. Their use has significant prospects in 3D printing for the needs of the aviation and space, automotive, medical and energy industries.
The opening of the site is an important step towards expanding the production of metal powders for RusAT LLC. The company is already implementing a project to organize the production of powders from heat-resistant alloys and stainless steels at the Chepetsk Mechanical Plant production site.
Reference
Russian industry faces the goal of ensuring technological sovereignty and transition to the latest technologies in the shortest time possible. The state and large national companies are channeling resources to speed up the development of the domestic research, infrastructure, scientific and technological base. The introduction of innovations and new high-tech equipment allows Rosatom and its enterprises to occupy new niches in the market, increasing the competitiveness of the nuclear industry and the entire Russian industry as a whole.
